Noraetopia, (2025)

​This work explores the coin noraebang as a heterotopia. A place existing outside of normal space and time, and containing multiple realities. In a society which is centred around formality and hierarchy, a solo trip to the coin noraebang allows a private space to release stress and express oneself without the worry of embarrassment or judgement from others.

Here, one can let loose for a while and perform to an imaginary audience. They can become their ideal self, a comedic self, or a nostalgic self. For some it becomes a ritual. A space to both escape from and embrace loneliness; flipping isolation into an empowered non-social performance.

해당 작업은 헤테로토피아로서의 코인 노래방을 살펴본다. 코인 노래방은 일반적 시공간에서 벗어난 장소인 동시에 다중의 현실을 내포한다. 형식과 위계가 중심이 되는 사회에서, 홀로 코인 노래방에 방문하는 행위는 타인의 시선이나 창피함에 대한 우려 없이 스트레스를 해소하고 있는 그대로의 자신을 드러낼 수 있는 사적 공간을 제공한다.

이곳에선 누구나 잠시 스스로를 내려놓고, 상상 속 관객을 위한 공연을 펼칠 수 있다. 우리 모두는 이상적이거나 익살스럽거나 또는 그리움에 잠길 수 있으며, 누군가에게는 이것이 일종의 의식이 되기도 한다. 외로움에서 도망치면서도 온전히 받아들이는 공간이자, 고립된 상태를 역전시켜 자기 주체적인 비사회적 공연으로 전환되는 장소인 것이다.
